Wolters leads Mudcats to win over Blue Rocks
WILMINGTON, DE – Tony Wolters plated three runs on three hits to help the Carolina Mudcats knock off the Wilmington Blue Rocks 5-2 on Wednesday night at Daniel Frawley Stadium.
Will Roberts (3-2) held Wilmington (28-30) to two runs on six hits over six innings to pick up the win. The right-hander struck out five without allowing a walk, and the Mudcats improved to 27-31. Jose Flores notched his ninth save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Sam Runion (0-1) allowed three runs in relief for the Blue Rocks. He was hit for five runs over three innings of work after starter Tyler Sample’s night was done.
Carlos Moncrief put Carolina on top with a solo blast over right field to begin the second inning. That lead was short-lived, however, as the Blue Rocks responded with two runs on a double by Juan Graterol.
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Wolters delivered his first hit, a line drive single to center, to square the game, 2-2. The 19-year-old infielder put the Mudcats back ahead with a bouncer through the right to score Justin Toole in the seventh.
Clinging to a one run lead in the ninth, Anthony Gallas singled to left with two out. Wolters followed with his best of the evening, a triple off the right field fence, to make it 4-2. Giovanny Urshela knocked in Wolters to finish off the scoring.
The Mudcats wrap-up their series against the Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium on Thursday night at 7:05.
