December 27, 2008   (0 comments)
Here is a quick rundown of some of the news from a very slow news week in the Indians system:
- Just a reminder, because of the Christmas holiday this past week we did not air our radio show and because of the New Year’s holiday this coming week the show will not air again. As mentioned previously, we will have a special show this coming Monday December 29th from 9:30-10:30pm EST to offset...

Farm Director Talks Prospects
Note: This conversation and article is from July 2007. Just another article written prior to the start of this blog that I wanted housed on this site for reference. Prospect countdowns starts in 9 days!
At the Lake County Captains game last Friday, I had the chance to sit down during the game and talk to Indians Farm Director Ross Atkins at great length about a great number of players up...

To all the readers of the Indians Prospect Insider, I just wanted to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas. And for those that do not celebrate Christmas I wanted to wish you a Happy Holidays as well.
This site is still growing, and it is amazing to think of where it was just a year ago and how much has changed. A lot more is going to change in 2009 as many new features and even more coverage...

Kinston Insider
* Note: This article originally was published in September 2007.
Kinston, North Carolina.
Having never been there, I had no idea what I was in store for when I visited there a few weeks back on the final weekend of August. After already visiting affiliates in large metropolitan areas in Akron and Buffalo, visiting Lake County which is a bustling area on the outskirts of major metropolis...

Just a real quick update on the prospect rankings and book since last week's update.
I was able to really make some headway last week on scouting reports for the upcoming Top 50 (or 75) ranking. I am still not sure if I will rank 50 players or rank them out to 75, but in either case the book is going to have over 100 in-depth scouting reports, all of which will eventually find their way on...

Caribbean Winter Leagues
As mentioned earlier Tony Sipp will not be going to play in the Dominican due to some shoulder soreness. Also, the Indians signed Jesus Mechan and Wilson Valdez to minor league deals and both are participating in Winter baseball, so we will keep you posted with their performances too.

Someone had asked why left-hander Tony Sipp was on the Dominican Winter League roster but had not pitched yet. With league play wrapping up this weekend and him not playing, I figured it was rather odd he would go out there and not play, so I poked around and found out why he is not pitching. Apparently, he did not even go to the Dominican Republic because he was experiencing some shoulder discomfort,...

Here is a quick rundown of what happened this past week:
- Right-hander Rob Bryson was our guest on Smoke Signals this week, and we talked to him for about 20 minutes covering everything from the C.C. Sabathia trade, how he is progressing from his offseason labrum surgery, what 2009 holds for him, some of the differences between the way the Indians and Brewers do things, and so on. Thanks again...

A Minor League Stop In Akron
This was originally posted in July 2007.
On Monday night, I traveled down to Akron to get a glimpse of the team and tour the facility before they broke for the All-Star break. Akron is the Indians Double-A affiliate, and the stadium is located in the heart of the city. The franchise moved from Burlington, Vermont to Canton, Ohio in 1989 and became the Cleveland Indians Double-A franchise, and...

Mills Is Making The Adjustments
Note: This article was originally posted in July 2007.
The Indians selected third baseman Beau Mills with their first pick in the 2007 Draft this past June. Mills was eager to sign quickly, and upon signing started his professional career in Mahoning Valley.
Since then, however, Mills has had to endure what seems like a myriad of adjustments. One of those adjustments was the change...

I have received many inquiries on when the rankings for the 2009 season will come out and if there will be another book this year and if so when it will be available. The quick answer to that is yes my 2009 Indians Top 50 Prospect list on the site is coming, and yes there will be another book.
At the moment, I am knee deep in finishing off all the scouting reports for what looks like around...

Goedert Positioned For Future Success
Note: This article was originally posted in September 2007 and is being re-published here since it was written before the site went live in late-October 2007.
Coming into this season, many people did not know much about Jared Goedert or had even heard of him. He had been taken in the ninth round of the 2006 Draft out of Kansas State, but after a decent year in Mahoning Valley he was not on...

Time for another rundown of some of the stories from the week:
- Right-handed reliever Randy Newsom was our guest this past week on an extended edition of Smoke Signals which ran for 1 hour and 40 minutes this week. We talked about the recent signing of closer Kerry Wood and the Gutierrez trade which netted the Indians right-handed reliever Joe Smith and infielder Luis Valbuena. In addition...

Indians Strike Gold With Rodriguez
Note: This is an article originally written in September 2007 being re-published here since it was written before the inception of this site in late October 2007.
The Indians had four second round picks in the 2006 Draft, and with one of them took a gamble on shortstop Josh Rodriguez from Rice.
The gamble was not on Rodriguez's talent as going into the season he was one of the top...

Boy do we have a jam packed show this week. Obviously, we will be talking about the Kerry Wood signing which by the time the show airs could be official once he (hopefully) passes his physical in Cleveland today. Also, we will talk about the Mariners-Indians-Mets three team trade that saw outfielder Franklin Gutierrez change his address to Seattle and RHP Joe Smith and infielder Luis Valbuena come...

The Rule 5 Draft came and went this afternoon with a flash, with the major and minor league portion of the draft being completed in less than an hour. As expected, the Indians did not lose anyone in the major league portion of the draft. And as usual, the fear over losing several prospects on this day was overstated as Jordan Brown, Randy Newsom, Chuck Lofgren, Frank Herrmann, Stephen Head, and Neil...
