Lofgren Looking Forward To New Season
Right now, with five days of camp left many players are excited about what the 2009 baseball season has in store for them. Some are looking to build on a strong campaign in 2008, some are looking to make a name for themselves, and some like left-hander Chuck Lofgren are looking forward to officially closing the door on a disappointing 2008 season.

Goodyear Notebook: 3/30
Okay, lots to cover today since I was not able to update as much as I wanted to over the weekend because of internet problems at the place I was staying at. Now that the issue has been cleared up, let's get right into today's notebook:
Releases: The following players have been released in the past few days: right-handed pitcher Brad Hinkle, left-handed pitcher Garrett Rieck, left-handed...

Okay, I have a ton of stuff to post tonight. Just an FYI that the updates will be posting. I finally have internet access, as I mentioned in my little diatribe on my way here my hotel had no internet because of the wind storm that blew through town the night I came in. I had to post all the stuff on Friday from Buffalo Wild Wings because they had wi-fi. In any case, I just checked into my regular accommodations...

A Wrong Turn In Albuquerque
Well, that was an eventful first day of spring training.
Not for the players, as they had an easy day on Friday since it was a camp day and morning drills were nixed where they instead just played eight-inning intrasquad games and were done for the day by 12:30pm.
No, it was an eventful day for yours truly.
I still have a hard time describing the insanity that was my Thursday night...

Okay, sorry for the lack of updates today. It has been one helluva past 18 hours for me, of which I will explain in greater detail tonight. I will say I have not been to bed in two days, got in at 6am WEST COAST TIME THIS MORNING (9am for you back in the East!), and my hotel had no internet because of damage from a major wind storm that came through here last night (and caused havoc on my flight).

The Indians today claimed RHP Jae Kuk Ryu off waivers from the Padres and he has reported to minor league camp. More Triple-A bully depth I guess. The Indians made room for him on the roster by placing RHP Jake Westbrook on the 60-day disabled list. Only 34 players remain in major league camp, and the 40-man roster is full.
Ryu, 25, made 5 starts for AAA Durham (1-2, 4.38 ERA, 24.2 IP, 26 H,...

Okay, I fly out to Arizona tonight at 9pm, but here is some info coming out of Goodyear on some injuries:
- INF Josh Rodriguez is sidelined with the dreaded intercostal strain. He is day to day.
- SS Carlos Rivero left yesterday's game with a knee injury.
No word on the severity Rivero's knee injury or how long J-Rod will be out, but hope to find that out while I am bouncing...

Tonight on Smoke Signals, Paul teams up with guest host Adam Burke who is filling in for me while I am in transit to Arizona. Adam will be doing an Indians show on Sunday night's this year, so be on the lookout for that. Anyway, tonight they will be previewing the Indians outfield and Michael Brantley's agent Josh Kusnick will be calling in at the end of the show. I also expect to call in sometime...

Holbert Excited For Second Voyage
Lake County Captains fans will notice a very familiar face on the steps of the first base dugout this year. That face is none other than Manager Aaron Holbert, who is returning for his second tour of duty with the club. Holbert is excited to be back as the captain of the ship in Lake County, and looks forward to the challenges that face him in his second season with the club.
"I am very thankful...

As those of you know who have read the Top 100 listing here on the site or read my book, there are a few people who I trust with their observations and opinions and they are invaluable in assisting me with coming up with a "fair" ranking for the Indians prospects. Two of those individuals, Art and Norman, are older gentlemen who have been following baseball much longer than I have and happen to be...
