A White Christmas In Arizona
It felt like Christmas in October seeing 2009 1st rounder Alex White on the mound and pitching for the Indians. It may have been a buzzer beater at the signing deadline in mid-August, but he is now 100% the property of the Indians and has since been working out in various places looking to gain some ground that was lost because he signed so late.
White has gotten a crash course in his short...

Instructional League Notebook: 10/16
I'm back from Arizona (unfortunately) and have one final notebook to talk about all the things I saw my last day in camp at the Indians Player Development Complex in Goodyear, AZ. Oh the joy of getting on a plane at 11am in Phoenix where it was 90 degrees, sunny, and nothing but blue skies only to step off the plane four hours later in Cleveland to temperatures barely in the 40s, rain and grey skies....

Instructional League Notebook: 10/14
Not only am I out in Arizona to cover the Instructional League and the happenings at the Indians new complex in Goodyear, but I am also out here to get a taste of the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and see what our young future Indians' hopefuls are up to in such a high level league. With the exception of shortstop Carlos Rivero, I had a chance to speak with all the Indians participants in the AFL on Tuesday...

The Indians today announced that first baseman/outfielder Matt LaPorta underwent a pair of procedures yesterday in Vail, Colorado to his left hip and left great (big) toe. The arthroscopic hip surgery was performed by Dr. Marc Philippon, who performed a debridement of a bony impingement in the joint. The left toe procedure was performed by Dr. Thomas Clanton, who stabilized the loose joint.

Okay, having rested up after the beat down from a hot sun yesterday watching baseball in three different places for over 12 hours, here is a quick summary of what is to come in the final two camp reports on Thursday and Friday.
Tonight (Thursday morning), I will recap my Arizona Fall League (AFL) and Parallel League visit yesterday. I’ll summarize what was seen in both games, but I also talked...

Camp was short on Tuesday as there was no Instructional League game in the afternoon. As a result, after players did their morning workouts from 9am to 11am they ate lunch and went home for the day. Things were still very busy on my end as I took in the morning workouts and then traveled over to Surprise, AZ to see the Indians/Reds Parallel League team play at 12:30pm and then out to Scottsdale,...

Instructional League Notebook: 10/12
Having arrived out here in the desert on Sunday - and this time with no crazy incidents like the one that occurred on my way out here in March - I was able to take in the action on Monday in the Fall Instructional League.
The Indians had morning fielding practice and batting practice at the complex from 9:00am to 10:30am, had lunch, and then players not playing in the afternoon game or only...

I was in camp today to catch the action in the morning with fielding and batting practice and then later in the day for the Instructional League game with the Indians on the road against the Padres in Peoria. I will have a full report of the details from today later tonight/early tomorrow morning. In the meantime, here are the box scores from over the weekend (you'll notice Kipnis at 2B....more on...

Here is a comprehensive stat listing for all the players who participated in the first half of Instructional League. As you may have noticed, the instructional period is broken up into two groups with the more experienced players there playing in games the first two weeks. A new group started playing last week, and was there getting instruction and working on things behind the scenes while they awaited...

Injury Plagued Season A Temporary Setback For Hodges
Things can change quickly in the minor leagues. In the "what have you done for me lately" world of fandom you are only as good as your last season, and as a result a prospect's stock can fluctuate a lot from season to season or even month to month.
Take for instance Wes Hodges.
Last year at this time Hodges was coming off of a sensational campaign in Akron where he hit .290 with 18...

Minor Happenings: 2009 Tony Awards
"Minor Happenings" covers the important developments and news in the Indians farm system. While most of the information in this report is from my own research and through interviews I have conducted with organizational personnel, some information in this report is collected and summarized from the various news outlets that cover each team.
Before we have some fun wrapping up the 2009 Indians...

UPDATE 10/6 4:22 PM: Just about done. The layout and everything else is set, just need to keep tweaking and adding more things. Also, trying to fix the header so the entire logo shows.
Just an FYI to anyone who stops into the site over the next few days that I am performing some site maintenance. As a result, some fonts and layouts may look out of sync while I toy around...

Hagadone Is Armed And Dangerous
The Indians season mercifully came to an end yesterday. With that, they can finally close the book on what was a very tough 2009 not only at the ticket office and in the standings, but also from a roster standpoint where they had to make several unpopular player personnel decisions.
One of those decisions was to trade the organization

Ever wondered at certain points this season where a certain player disappeared to or why he was never mentioned? Chances are, the player was released. Most of those players were announced as soon as they were released, but I have collected all the player releases over the course of 2009 into one comprehensive lise below. This listing will be housed in the reference section on the right panel and will...

Marson Catching On For 2010
The Indians season will come to an unceremonious end on Sunday as the team looks to leave the 2009 season in the dust as quickly as possible and get right to work on 2010.
As the offseason plays out and spring training nears, several moves will be made in regard to the roster and the coaching staff at the big league level. One of those changes is likely to occur at the catching position. The...
