Here are some quotes from last night's press conference with Cleveland Indians Director of Amateur Scouting Brad Grant:
On Drew Pomeranz: "Drew brings a power fastball 90-95 MPH with a plus late breaking swing-and-miss curveball, a changeup, and an ability to start. On the mound he is an extreme competitor as he is very mature and very focused. Nothing wavers him at all and he looks much...

Akron's Week That Was: 5/31 - 6/6
If the Aeros go on to make a incredible run in attempt to get back to the Eastern League playoffs yet again, you will most likely point to this week when trying to identify where it all started. The Aeros finished off a four-game set with Binghamton by splitting the series, then went on to sweep both Erie and Harrisburg to cap off an undefeated week. The Aeros are finally rolling and it has everything...

The Clippers got an early lead Monday night in Indianapolis, but too many free passes eventually caught up with starter Josh Tomlin and the host Tribe earned a 5-3 victory in the series finale.
Fresh off of a 4-RBI game, Brian Bixler kept his hot bat going with a two-run home run in the third, putting Columbus up 2-0. Indianapolis got one run...

Update 7:56 PM: Gotta say I am very happy with the Indians pick of Pomeranz at #5. They did not change their opinion of him even after all the talk the past 24-48 hours that he could be sliding on draft boards. As Mirabelli mentioned a few weeks ago, they stayed true to their approach of not reacting a lot to late risers or fallers. Choice or Sale would have also been very good picks at #5, but to...

The baseball draft by its very nature is different from every other sport's draft.
The only draft that comes close to it is hockey. Hockey, though, is still a draft where you can consider need because of the number of players who do go straight to the pros. In baseball it is considered the exception and not the rule when a player is able to play for your Major League team within a year of...

My son put some perspective on the big baseball news of the week after Jim Joyce made the bad call to cost Armando Galaragga his perfect game when he said, "Hey Daddy, we shouldn't feel that bad. At least it didn't happen to the Tribe, like it usually does." Yes, my son, at the ripe age of eight years old, is already a jaded Indians fan.
The K-Tribe entered the week five games out of first...
