Indians Prospect Insider

July 14, 2010   (0 comments)
Tomorrow I head out of town for two weeks as I will be making my annual summer trek to Florida for a family trip and then will be doing baseball related stuff at the tail end of it in Kinston. With that in mind I felt it best to clear out the inbox before I go and post some answers to questions I have received recently regarding the Indians and their minor league teams/players.
As a reminder,...

This whole Lebron James saga which played out live on national TV and the internet the past couple of weeks was an eerie reminder for Cleveland fans of the whole Manny Ramirez saga which in its own way played out on TV back in 2000. While ESPN may not have been as big then as it is today and the internet was still very much in its infancy, similarities exist between the exit of James and Ramirez from...

Akron's Week That Was: 7/5 - 7/11
Before they go on a short two-day All-Star break this Tuesday, the Aeros will finish up their four-game set with Erie tonight. The Aeros continued a horrid season for the Sea Wolves in the first two games of the series, but Erie rallied for a win in the eighth inning on Sunday to pull out a win. The Aeros did win three games over Trenton before hitting the road and now sit a game above .500 and...

Game Recap 7/11: Toregas' Columbus Debut A Big Hit
Clippers work overtime for 7-5 victory
The Clippers wrapped up the first half of their 2010 season with a see-saw affair in Louisville on Sunday, getting a game-tying home run in the ninth from Cord Phelps and then another an inning later from Wyatt Toregas to take a 10-inning decision, 7-5.
The host Bats got out to an early lead thanks to a Zack Cozart homer, but the Clippers responded...

The Kinston Indians seemed to be on the edge of really taking off as the fourth of July week began last Sunday. The K-Tribe had gone 4-2 over their previous six games, and really had a dominating win on Sunday behind T.J. McFarland. True to fashion during the 2010 season, the Indians went the exact opposite way, losing four of their next five games.
While the overall offense continued to...

The Cleveland Indians today announced they have purchased the contract of catcher/outfielder Chris Gimenez from Triple-A Columbus. To make room on the Major League and 40-man roster, the Indians designated catcher Mike Redmond for assignment.

White Lightning
Alex White has had a nice little start to his pro career.
Drafted 13th overall in 2009 by the Indians out of North Carolina, White was projected by many to be a top-10 pick in the draft. He was a late sign, right at the August deadline, so he didn't pitch as a professional until the 2010 season.
White began 2010 in the K-Tribe rotation, where he went 2-3 with a 2.86 ERA and 41 K's...

The Scrapperbook: Week Three
I'd like to apologize for putting this out a day late, but due to the impact of "The Decision" by LeBron James, I felt it was best to let my emotions settle.
After sleeping on it and watching LeBron's introduction to Miami, I'm convinced his ego matches his immaturity. I'm not as upset with him leaving as I am how he handled the situation. He had every right to leave, but at the same time,...

Paul Cousineau and I have decided to cancel our Smoke Signals broadcast tonight. The reason is simply because of two words: LeBron James.
With James expected to formally announce his decision around 9:10 PM EST tonight about what team he will sign with, we felt it next to impossible to do an Indians show when everyone else (including us) will be locked into the events as they unfold on TV....

McBride Stars As Aeros Win Easily 10-2
The Aeros offense picked up steam Wednesday night at Canal Park, dominating the Trenton Thunder in a 10-2 victory. The outburst followed a season-low one-hit performance by Akron Tuesday as first baseman Matt McBride had another dominant outing in front of a crowd of 2,191 fans. The hosts pounced for five runs in the third inning and four more in the fifth...

Gimenez Understands The Tough Road Back
Chris Gimenez has had an up and down season so far in 2010.
Gimenez received a 100 at bat cup of coffee with the Indians in 2009 and despite a hot-start, had trouble adjusting to Big League pitching. This year he came out of the gates strong by OPSing 1.013 in April and bashing 5 HR
