it's been a busy week in winter ball as the first round of the Dominican Winter League ends tonight, so teams have been trying to make their playoff push. Along a way, a handful of Indians players, such as Carlos Santana, Jose Ramirez and Mikes McDade, have been trying to help power their teams to the next round. Yet, unfortunately, not every player has been having success in the process. The IPI's Steve Orbanek recaps all the winter action in this week's edition of the WInter Ball Notebook.

Today is the first batch of 2013 scouting videos we will be posting to the site over the next several days. We shot tons of video of over 135 players this season, and in today's batch of videos we feature Adam Abraham, Jesus Aguilar, Cody Allen, Cody Anderson, Elvis Araujo, Shawn Armstrong, Robbie Aviles, Scott Barnes, Ryan Battaglia, and Kyle Bellows.

The Maya were wrong, so here's the final installment in the TR's seven week look back at the player movement for the past season in the Cleveland Indians organization. Today's stop is the non-post-apocalyptic Indians Player Development Complex in Goodyear, Arizona, home to the Rookie-level Arizona League Indians.

If you're reading this, then it appears we have all survived the Mayan apocalypse. And since the simple act of a calendar running out of room (which seems to happen on my wall every year) has failed to predict the end of the world, it is time to dive into the action from around the winter leagues. Join Jim Piascik as he goes Around The Farm, checking in with Andrew Campbell, Roberto Perez, and more.

We continue with our 2013 prospect coverage here at the IPI with a look at the right fielders in the Indians system. With the Indians recent trade of outfielder Shin-Soo Choo they have a glaring hole they need to fill in right field in the short term and long term, and while the internal options in the short term are limited, the Indians have some interesting prototype right field prospects moving up the minor league ladder. Tony looks at all of the right field options the Indians have in their system all the way to the Dominican Summer League, and breaks down the potential and future for the likes of Hector Caro, Victor De Jesus, Josh McAdams, Carlos Moncrief, Bryson Myles, Juan Romero, Brian Ruiz, Jordan Smith, Omar Sanchez, and several others.

It has been years since Cleveland had flexibility with the designated hitter spot, as Travis Hafner's complete inability to play in the field relegated him to full-time DH status. Now that Hafner is not expected to be with the team in 2013, Chris Antonetti and Terry Francona have the ability to use the DH spot as a way to keep the everyday players fresh. But exactly how would that fall out? Jim Piascik takes a stab at fitting the pieces together and offers how he thinks it could all fall together.

After a nearly three week absence, Jesus Aguilar once again appeared in a winter ball contest on Wednesday, and while the slugger's appearance was brief, it was positive nonetheless. Plus, Mike McDade had a strong night at the plate, and Carlos Santana continues to draw walks and strikeout at a very high rate. All this and more as the IPI's Steve Orbanek takes you Around the Farm.

The Cleveland Indians are in a waiting game right now, as the Nick Swisher tour gains momentum as the right fielder shops his talents to several teams across major league baseball. Many experts have the Indians in the lead in this horse race, but Jim Pete reminds Cleveland fans of the cautionary tale of free agents and Cleveland.

Free agent outfielder Nick Swisher left Cleveland yesterday afternoon. What destination he was heading to next on his free agent tour is still a mystery, but even though he departed without signing a contract the Indians still appear the frontrunner to sign him. Tony discusses how draft pick compensation may be limiting his market and why the Indians are still his most logical landing spot.

The Cleveland Indians today announced they have signed free agent right-handed pitcher Joe Martinez and catcher Brian Jeroloman to minor league contracts with non-roster invitations to Major League camp. Martinez returns to the Indians after pitching for Triple-A Columbus in 2011 and Jeroloman will provide much needed upper level catching depth.

Let’s start with a prediction; no player is going to more polarizing on the 2013 Cleveland Indians than Mark Reynolds. It would be too easy to say that Reynolds is an upgrade from Casey Kotchman and leave it at that. Reynolds will be an upgrade from Kotchman, that’s a slam dunk. The real question, as the title asks, is whether or not Reynolds was the right move on the free agent market. The IPI's Michael Goodman takes a deeper look into the value the Indians new first baseman brings to the team.

There was plenty of action around the numerous winter leagues on Tuesday. Asdrubal Cabrera continued to rake at the plate while Carlos Santana unfortunately had a game that he would probably like to have back. Also, Matt Langwell and Giovanni Soto continued to dominate hitters in the Puerto Rican Winter League. The IPI's Steve Orbanek recaps all this and more as he takes you Around the Farm.

Today the Indians officially announced the signing of first baseman Mark Reynolds to a one year contract. The deal is for a reported $6 million and includes an additional $1.5 million in incentives. To make room on the 40-man roster the Indians designated first baseman/outfielder Russ Canzler for assignment.

As you read this, outfielder Nick Swisher is on a plane out of Cleveland. The free agent outfielder was in town today and visited Indians facilities as the team continues to pursue his services. A standing offer is apparently on the table for Swisher, so these next few days could become quite interesting.

The IPI's Steve Orbanek returns with a new edition of Then & Now. Thomas Neal put together a brilliant performance for the Akron Aeros this past season and was rewarded with a call up to Cleveland in September. However, Neal's playing time was quite limited, and there's no guarantee that the outfielder is in the Indians plans moving forward. Steve looks back at Neal's career and ponders the California native's future after the jump.

We continue with our 2013 prospect coverage here at the IPI with a look at the left fielders in the Indians system. It is no secret that left field is a position of immediate need at the big league level for the Indians, but the options in the upper levels of the Indians system are limited. Tony looks at all of the left field options for the Indians now and in the future and breaks down the potential and future for the likes of Victor Cabral, Tim Fedroff, Anthony Gallas, Bo Greenwell, Jorge Martinez, Thomas Neal, Anthony Santander, Jeremie Tice and many others.

It was a very quiet night in the Indians system on Monday night. Ezequiel Carrera continued his recent string of solid performances at the plate while Paolo Espino unfortunately had a game that he would probably like to have back. The IPI's Steve Orbanek recaps all the action and also recaps Chun Chen's performance so far in the Asian Winter Baseball League as he takes you Around the Farm.

The Indians have been talking to free agent outfielder Nick Swisher for several weeks now, and today they reportedly have intensified what was already a very aggressive pursuit. According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Indians “are making a push in their effort to sign Swisher”.

In today's final edition of "Coach's Corner" this offseason, we saved the best for last. Tony recently had a chance to sit down with former High-A Carolina hitting coach and new Low-A Lake County manager Scooter Tucker and discuss a lot of the players he worked with this past season at Carolina. The Indians had a lot of very intriguing position player talent at Carolina this past season, and Tucker went into great detail on things they worked on over the course of the season. They talked about Carlos Moncrief, Ronny Rodriguez, Tony Wolters, Jesus Aguilar, Giovanny Urshela, Anthony Gallas, and more.

As some of you may have seen in a tweet I sent out last week, Indians Prospect Insider will soon be no more. No, it is not closing up shop and going away. Instead, this site will become Indians Baseball Insider. We are going from the IPI to the IBI, and the change should occur sometime between now and the next two weeks. Tony explains why the change was made and what it means for the site.
