Twins stun Indians in extras, shutout Tribe, 1-0
Déjà vu? You can say that again. Deadlocked in a scoreless tie in the tenth inning, Tribe closer John Axford (0-3, 4.85 ERA) thrived in his role of the villain for the second straight game. Coming into the ballgame in a non-save situation Monday, Axford served up what would be the game-winning solo homer to Twins shortstop Eduardo Escobar, as Minnesota hung onto defeat the Indians, 1-0. Columbus Clippers in back-and-forth battle against Rochester, 6-4
Giovanny Urshela tallied two hits and two runs while Matt Carson went 3 for 3 to lead the Columbus Clippers to a win against Rochester, 6-4. Tyler Cloyd pitched five innings and the Clippers' bullpen added four shutout frames in support. The win moved Columbus within one game of a .500 record.

Carolina Mudcats drop Lynchburg behind two Jeremy Lucas bombs
The Carolina Mudcats demolished the Lynchburg Hillcats, 10-3, Monday behind a powerful offensive showing. Jeremy Lucas launched two home runs and Luigi Rodriguez added another to lead the charge. Lucas, Anthony Gallas and Jerrud Salbourin all finished with two hits and Michael Peoples pitched 5.1 innings.

Lake County Captains lose to West Michigan in 18-inning marathon
The Lake County Captains scored twice in the third inning to even the score before embarking on a wild ride Monday night. Neither team scored between the fourth and 16th innings, before both added a run in the 17th. Lake County was held scoreless in the top of the 18th before West Michigan finished it off. Outfielder Cody Ferrell got the loss and outfielder Brian Ruiz got a blown save as the Captains emptied the bull pen, and the dugout.

Akron RubberDucks bury Erie SeaWolves with 16 hits to win, 10-1
After a scoreless start, the Akron RubberDucks jumped out for a 10-1 win against the Erie SeaWolves, Monday. Akron, powered by multi-hit games from Tyler Naquin, Tyler Holt, Bryan LaHair, Joe Wendle, Bryson Myles and Ronny Rodriguez, finished the night with 16 hits, compared to four for Erie. Will Roberts did his part with 6.1 innings of three-hit, one-run ball.

Gomes reactivated, Giambi placed on DL
The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have activated catcher Yan Gomes from the Paternity List and placed designated hitter Jason Giambi (right calf strain) on the 15-day Disabled List, retroactive to May 4.

Second Thoughts Game #31: White Sox 4, Indians 3
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times... Perhaps Dickens was prophesying Sunday's game between the Indians and White Sox with those words. Either way, it encapsulates the resounding joy followed by sheer frustration and heartbreak felt by Tribe fans that afternoon. Kluber and Kottaras made history, but Axford couldn't finish the job. When Dylan Baker went down with an injury just a few games into the season the Indians needed a pitcher to step up and fill his spot well in the High-A Carolina rotation. Right-hander D.J. Brown saw an opportunity, has since taken it, and has more than stepped up and performed well. RubberDucks complete sweep of Curve, 8-straight wins
Akron RubberDucks first baseman Ronny Rodriguez smacked a two-out, opposite-field double in the eighth inning Sunday, driving in the, eventual, winning run in a 5-4 victory over the Altoona Curve at People’s Natural Gas Field. The win completed a four-game series sweep for the RubberDucks (18-11), and extended the team’s winning streak to eight games. Akron is now 7-2 on the season against Altoona.

Mudcats lose pitchers' duel 2-1 to Blue Rocks
Carolina came up on the wrong end of a pitchers' duel, losing 2-1 to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Sunday afternoon. The Mudcats managed only three runs against the Blue Rocks over the final three games of the series after scoring six runs in the opening contest.

Clippers struggle, fall to Bulls 6-2
The Columbus Clippers (13-15) had another opportunity to break even on the season. They were successful two days ago, but not Sunday evening. A two-run home run in the seventh inning by Roman Ali Solis allowed the Durham Bulls (20-11) to take the final game of the four-game series 6-2 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Lake County drops series finale, 6-4
The Dayton Dragons made a comeback in the middle innings to take the final game of the three-game series against the Lake County Captains. Lake County (9-21) won two out of three after falling in the finale 6-4 on Sunday afternoon. The series win against Dayton (17-12) was the first since the opening weekend against Lansing, one month ago.

Axford blows save, White Sox edge Indians, 4-3
Hall of Fame manager Earl Weaver once said, "The key to winning baseball games is pitching, defense and three-run homers." The Indians brought the starting pitching and defense, but it was the White Sox that would bring the final punch. A three-run homer off the bat of right fielder Dayan Vicideo in the ninth inning allowed Chicago to avoid the series sweep Sunday, defeating the Tribe, 4-3.
