If so, the die is cast. We know who we could have had and now we can see how it turns out. Me, I would have rather had Heilman

Time will tell.

Let's see.

Lower career ERA, Less H9, less HR9....5 years younger

Lower WHIP, 5 years older, don't get a 22 year old 2B prospect

I'm not going to mention that Heilman got rocked last year with an ERA over 5, just because you're adamant in your point that bullpen guys are very up and down, which I somewhat agree with.

I would take the 2 for 1 either way.

I didn't mark the exact date that I stopped considering Hoynes a responsible, informed sports journalist...but it was quite a while ago.

We already have one guy that we need a bounce back from in the pen, do we really need two?

Why would we want Heilman instead of Smith AND Valbuena. Based on everything the three players have done to date and what they are expected to do going forward, I take Smith/Valbuena. Heilman has the prospect pedigree and some great stuff, but has not been very good, consisent and I am not sure I want that in my pen in 2009. I take the more sure thing in Smith, plus potentially fill our 2B problem.

I really like Heilman still and think he can be a decent backend guy....but I agree, I like what we got better.
